A little piece on who I am
I am the Great Grandson of Albert Buckley, for those that don’t know who Albert is, he was a great all-round angler, that in 1930 caught the UK record Carp and held the record until Dick Walker took it from him. Both my Grandad and Dad were anglers, so it’s in my genes. I started fishing at the age of 4 when my dad made me a fishing rod from a garden cane. I spent many happy hours as a child down the cut (canal) with my bean stick rod and wooden centre-pin reel.
Since those early years I have progressed somewhat and have now fished a lot of countries throughout Europe and also in Australia.
Having fished
Salagou
Bled
Balaton
Chanty
Orellana
River Rhone
River Saone
River Vienne
River Guadiana
I moved to France in 2009 and started ‘living the dream’ I live a 5 minute drive from the beautiful Vienne River and many lakes where, over several years, I have built up my knowledge on how to fish these waters and the areas which hold fish. As many anglers know, France is a wonderful country for fishing. I chose the Vienne region of France to live as I had visited the area many times previously and had made friends here.
I know a lot of anglers that just want to fish commercial fisheries and I myself have spent many hours on these sorts of waters, but my heart has always been with wild fish from public rivers and lakes. I feel the rewards of catching a fish from these types of waters greatly outweighs those from commercial waters.
So, to sum me up, I am a 58 year old guy that has been fishing for the last 54 years, and is now living the dream and offering the chance to fish these waters through my guiding business, Guided Fishing Holidays.
Oh yes for those that think size matters.. my pb carp are…. Mirror 64lb and Common 51lb I have also had Grass Carp to close to 40lb and cats to well over a 100lb.
Lee - Barbel Consultant

My name is Lee, I’ve been fishing for barbel for nearly thirty years, mostly on my beloved river Ribble but also on the Yorkshire rivers Wharfe and Swale and also the river Severn.
Over the years I’ve caught my fair share of barbel with some incredible specimens to double figures with my current Ribble PB standing at just over twelve pounds.
Throughout the summer months you’ll find me enjoying lazy evenings on the river fishing for barbel then as autumn arrives my fishing takes a more serious turn as my attention shifts towards looking for the bigger fish where my experience watercraft and knowledge of the river comes into play in my quest for bigger barbel
